TL;DR

BETTERFEED runs entirely in your browser. It does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal data. There is no server, no account, no analytics, no third party. Your settings live on your device and never leave it.

This extension is developed and maintained by an independent developer. BETTERFEED complies with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies and does not engage in any prohibited data collection practices.

01What we collect

Nothing. BETTERFEED has no backend infrastructure. It does not contact any external server. It cannot — there is no network code in the extension.

Specifically, BETTERFEED does not collect:

Data Retention: Since BETTERFEED does not collect any data, there is no data retention period. The only information stored is your local preference settings, which remain on your device until you uninstall the extension.

02Where settings are stored

Your three toggle preferences — Grayscale, Blur media, and No autoplay — are stored locally in chrome.storage.local on your device. They are accessible only to the BETTERFEED extension, on your machine. Removing the extension deletes them.

Your settings are protected by Chrome's built-in security mechanisms and are not accessible to other extensions or websites.

03Permissions, explained

When you install BETTERFEED, Chrome asks you to grant a small set of permissions. Here is what each one is for and why we need it:

That's the entire permission set. BETTERFEED requests no host permissions for any other domain.

04Third parties

None. BETTERFEED does not embed any third-party SDKs, analytics libraries, advertising scripts, fonts, or tracking pixels.

Instagram itself, of course, has its own privacy practices — BETTERFEED runs on top of Instagram in your browser, but does not change or interact with Meta's data collection. We recommend reviewing Instagram's privacy policy separately if that's a concern.

05Children

BETTERFEED is a content-modification tool for an existing service (Instagram). It does not collect any data from any user, regardless of age. We do not knowingly do anything with children's data because we do not do anything with anyone's data.

06Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the "Last updated" date above will change too. Substantive changes — for example, if BETTERFEED ever began sending any data anywhere — would be announced via an in-extension notification the next time you open Instagram with BETTERFEED active, before they took effect.

07Your Rights

Because BETTERFEED does not collect, process, or store any personal data, rights such as data access, deletion, portability, or rectification are not applicable. Your preference settings are stored locally on your device and can be reset at any time by removing the extension.

For users in the European Union, California, and other jurisdictions with data protection laws: your privacy rights are respected, though BETTERFEED's architecture means there is no personal data to exercise those rights upon.

08Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes arising from this policy will be resolved in accordance with applicable law in the jurisdiction where the developer resides.

For users in the European Union, your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) are respected. For users in California, your rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) are respected. However, as BETTERFEED does not process personal data, these regulations do not apply to its operation.
